The main contractor has been appointed for the works involved in the construction of a new Coast Guard Station in Crosshaven, Co Cork.
The development contract awarded to Cumnor Construction consists of the construction of a two storey building (591 sq to) to facilitate the Irish Coast Guard Service with extensive site works including stone-faced retaining walls, gabion retaining walls, rebuilding conservation stonework in boundary walls, car parking spaces, hard and soft landscaping works, external lighting, erection of radio aerials and flag poles, and the realignment of underground site services.
The development will comprise the construction of 3 Flagpoles and 2 Radio aerials with associated entrance signage to lands at rear of the existing Garda Station, associated hard and soft landscaping works including improvement or installation of perimeter boundaries.
The approved plans include the provision of 17 car parking spaces, an external storage shed, semi-mature tree planting, the removal of the existing shed within the Garda Station grounds, the provision of 10 car parking spaces for Garda Station use, the improvement of the entrance vehicular driveway, external lighting of driveway and parking areas, alterations and the widening of the existing vehicular entrance (including provision of new entrance gates) to be shared by Garda Station & Irish Coast Guard Service.
Associated footpath works, new wall mounted signage at the new Irish Coast Guard Station entrance gates, the rebuilding of newly aligned and amended front boundary wall, associated site works and services will feature.
Main construction work is expected to commence on site during early August, 2011 and the contract period is estimated at 12 months.
The cost of the scheme is in the region of €650,000. Sub-contractors will be appointed shortly.
