Tenders are expected to be sought from a select list of contractors in Q4 2011 to look after the construction of a new cinema complex for Galway City.

Solas Galway Picture Palace Teoranta intend to award a single contract for the demolition of an existing dwelling on the corner Merchants Road, Galway City and for the construction of a new four-storey over basement cinema to include three cinemas, cafe, bar, bookshop and associated facilities together with all associated external works including piled basement and all connections to existing mains services.

Construction works are expected to commence in late 2011, with the new complex expected to be complete by Q1 2013.

A full design team has been engaged, led by lead architect, De Paor Architects. The development will measure 1,150 sq.m.
