A main contractor has been appointed to undertake construction work on a new €40 million science centre for a Dublin University.
The project designed by Dublin-based practice RKD Architects calls for the construction of a new science centre for University College Dublin (UCD).
Architects plans have revealed the new centre as a five-storey building with a single-storey enclosed roof plant area.
To the west and south sides of the new building atrium space will connect the new building to an existing science building
The proposed works will provide new scientific teaching and research labs, classrooms, an auditorium, an exhibition area, restaurant, staff and admin offices, breakout areas, WCs and storage rooms.
The total gross floor area of the new building will measure 19,975 sq.m.
Construction work is expected to commence in mid-October this year and take in the region of 14 months to complete. A full design team has been engaged.
