Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has set out Roads Service's progress on investment totalling £5.9million for maintenance and improvement.
The Minister said: "A wide range of improvement and maintenance schemes have been completed in the Fermanagh District. This includes the resurfacing of the busy A4 Wellington Road and Dublin Road, which also incorporated revised traffic lane markings. These schemes will improve safety and the flow of traffic in the area.
"The priorities and constraints placed on funding levels by Budget 2010 mean it is likely the programme of Local Transport and Safety Measures in 2012/13 and 2013/14 will be under considerable pressure. While current indications are that funding for resurfacing and minor improvement works will be very limited next year, I remain committed to delivering these important schemes as resources permit. The autumn round of Council meetings is a timely opportunity for Councils to discuss potential schemes and priorities for incoming and future years."
The Minister also spoke about the £12.85million programme of work that recently started on the Cherrymount Link road, which when complete in February 2013 will significantly improve traffic flow.
At the meeting, Principal Engineer, Des McFarlane highlighted a number of improvement and maintenance schemes currently under construction and planned this year. "I am pleased to note the completion of a number of other significant schemes in the area including the right turn lane into Erneside shopping centre at Quay Lane off A4 Wellington Road and the right turn lane at Killyvilly off the Tempo Road. There have been bridges replaced at Gortatole and Drumbominy, as well as numerous other pieces of work which serve to make roads safer and more efficient."
