Navan Town Council has granted planning approval for the construction of a giant cinema complex, creating over 60 jobs and boosting the local construction sector.
The €6m complex by Flix Cinemas, based at Navan Retail Park, will feature a 15 metre glazed entrance with 10 3D screens and seating for 1,918 patrons.
An estimated spend of €3m will be used for the development alone.
Navan Fianna Fail Councillor Shane Cassells welcomed the decision as a "much-needed shot in the arm for the local economy".
Mr Cassells said: "The green light for the development was a positive statement for growth in the retail park and that its location off the M3 spur road would see it attract people from a wide radius.
"These are the kind of high-quality leisure facilities that we need in the heart of Meath and I know that movie fans across the county will be excited that it has got the go ahead from our planning department."
Managing Director of Flix Cinema, Darren Corcoran, has outlined plans to unveil the cinema as early as summer 2012.
