SDLP Foyle MLA Pat Ramsey has reacted to news that the Planning Service have authorised the demolition of the old Hamiltons Factory overlooking Foyle Road due to safety concerns.

Mr Ramsey said: "I raised this issue in May last year due to falling debris from the building and the high risk it posed to motorists and pedestrians alike, particularly given its location at the emerging road from the undercarriage of the Craigavon Bridge. Now that the Planning Service have authorised the demolition of the buidling, the Health and Safety issues will be addressed, and while it is a shame to lose a listed building at the gateway to the City centre, if it saves someone from being seriously injured or worse, then it is necessary."
