Contractor Pulls Out Of Inchicore NS Building Project

Fine Gael TD for Dublin South Central, Catherine Byrne, has expressed her shock and disappointment at the news that the new contractor recently selected to complete building work at Inchicore National School has pulled out of the project.

She said: "This is shocking news for the school, and the local community. The staff and pupils in Inchicore NS have already been through a difficult time since building works ground to a halt last year when the original contractor went into receivership. The school has been waiting since 2001 for its much needed extension and finally got the green light in 2009.

"Works started but then ground to a halt last May, leaving the school in the middle of a building site. This was a huge blow. The Department of Education then proceeded to issue a tender for another company to complete the work.

"However, the school has now been informed that this contractor has pulled out of the project. I am therefore calling on the Minister for Education to intervene immediately and appoint a new contractor to recommence building works as soon as possible. The people of Inchicore have waited long enough for their local national school to be completed."
