SDLP Derry City Cllr John Boyle has welcomed news that Roads Service is set to conduct traffic surveys on one of Derry's main thoroughfares.
SDLP representatives have secured an undertaking that Roads Service are to carry out surveys on Northland Road and will be assessing the need to erect pedestrian crossings on what is one of the busiest roads in Derry.
The Northland Cllr said: "The SDLP has been extremely proactive in working with Roads Service on this issue.
"Pedestrians have experienced difficulties for many years when trying to cross the road and there have been quite a number of near misses.
"Of particular concern are the peak times when children are going to and from local schools in the area.
"I am hopeful that these crossings will get the go-ahead and that the net effect will be to protect the lives of pedestrians and also go some way towards alleviating the difficulties that local motorists encounter when trying to access the Northland Road from Foyle Springs, Springvale and Springtown Industrial Estate."
