Internationally renowned actor Cillian Murphy has sent a message of support to the Vita Cortex workers on the 70th day of their sit-in at the former foam manufacturing plant on the Kinsale Road in Cork.
The Cork born star of several Hollywood films and the award winning Irish War of Independence film - The Wind that Shakes the Barley - told the workers of his admiration for their struggle to secure agreed redundancy terms.
In his email Cillian Murphy wrote: "For whatever its worth I really just wanted to pass on my admiration to you all for the courage and commitment you are displaying in your sit-in. To everyone following this situation from the outside it is more than clear that you have right on your side and that what you are highlighting is hugely important to us all as a nation. As a fellow Corkonian with stubborn tendencies, I salute your refusal to accept what is an obvious injustice. I wish ye strength. Fair play to ye all…Up Cork."
Among the workers other high profile supporters are Manchester United Manager Alex Ferguson, former President Mary Robinson, American academic Noam Chomsky, folk singer Christy Moore, and former Irish international footballer Paul McGrath.
