Architecture Comes To Life

South Dublin County Council has announced an Explore Architecture event with workshops, talks, exhibitions and learning for all ages.

The impact of our built environment is a two-week programme organised by South Dublin County Council that focuses on engaging people of all ages in sharing experiences and understanding of our built environment.

The programme, which takes place from 20th – 30th of March in County Library, Tallaght as well as in landmark buildings in South Dublin County, includes interactive workshops and tours for primary and secondary schools, talks, exhibitions activities for all ages. These are facilitated by professional artists and architects.

On Saturday the 24th March at 12.30pm Mayor Caitriona Jones will launch the Thinking Space. Housed in County Library, Tallaght, this creative space will introduce architecture and how buildings are formed through information, images, interactive materials and architectural books. It is open to children and adults. Other events during the day include a Family Workshop facilitated by Architects and Artists, Architectural Exhibition and Dance Walk.

Irenie McLoughlin, Programme Director and Architectural Conservation Officer for South Dublin County Council, stated: "Our aim is to build awareness & knowledge of the impact the built environment has on everyday lives, social interactions, artistic & aesthetic understanding & experiences, & personal experiences.

"Within this very exciting and interactive programme there is something for everyone. Our event focuses on providing knowledge and understanding through the engagement of professionals and the participation of children and young adults. The future quality of our built environment will be determined by the children of today."
