Clarke Welcomes Road Resurfacing Commitment For Main Street Dundrum

Newcastle Alliance Councillor Patrick Clarke has welcomed a commitment given to him from DRD Roads Service in a written response to resurface Main Street Dundrum.

The written assurance was issued following Councillor Clarke making representations to DRD Roads Service following the main road showing signs of wear and tear and distress.

Councillor Clarke stated: "DRD Roads Service have advised me that Main Street Dundrum is part of their main Trunk Road Network (TRN) and as such DRD Roads Service are able to make a bid for funding from Roads Service annual TRN allocation.

"I have been informed that it is DRD Roads Service intention to submit a bid in August to have the stretch of Main Street Dundrum to be resurfaced in the 2013/14 financial year.

"DRD Roads Service have agreed in the mean time, that the road will be inspected on a routine basis and any defects identified, prioritised and repaired in accordance with Roads Service's road maintenance standards.

"The roads surface along various parts of Main Street Dundrum had been showing signs of wear and tear and cracking, which is largely due to the fact that the road is a very busy thoroughfare route to Newcastle and other routes such as Ballynahinch and Downpatrick.

"I welcome the commitment given to me by DRD Roads Service following my representations in which I raised my concerns as to the present road surface along Main Street Dundrum."
