New facilities in Fermoy Community Hospital have been officially opened by Mrs. Eily Whelan, St Patrick's Hospital Fundraising Association and local businessman Dr. Tom Cavanagh.
The Dochas (which means hope) Ward is a 30 bed unit catering for older people in the area who require continuing, convalescent, respite or palliative care. The ward comprises of single, twin and four bedded rooms with associated en suite facilities creating a homely environment together with state of the art specialist equipment and facilities. In addition, the unit has a luxurious dining room with French doors opening onto a beautiful large and enclosed courtyard with garden furniture, shaded seating area and colourful shrubbery. There is a large sitting room, sun room and a library with comfortable seating and well stocked bookshelves for the residents to enjoy. There is also a visitor's room with overnight accommodation for relatives who can stay with their loved one if necessary. The Ward can be accessed through the newly constructed glass corridor known as the 'Croi' (which means heart) corridor.
Welcoming the official opening of the Dochas Ward and the Croi corridor, Ms. Annette Clancy, Director of Nursing at Fermoy Community Hospital said: "This is a wonderful day for Fermoy Community Hospital. The newly constructed Dochas Ward and the Croi corridor provide an enhanced environment for residents and will serve older people in the region for many years to come. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for taking the time to attend the official opening today. I hope residents and their families enjoy the new surroundings and I thank the staff who work here for their ongoing commitment to caring for residents on a daily basis."
