Newry and Mourne District Council has announced the introduction of Crossmaglen Household Recycling Centre.
After much planning and development, the new state of the art facility is underway and will soon be open to the residents of Newry and Mourne by the end of 2012. The Household Recycling Centre will be equipped with state of the art compactors, and open top containers and will focus on recycling of household material for the residents in the area.
Deputy Mayor Cllr Geraldine Donnelly who visited the new site and saw the development first hand, said: "We are delighted that after a long period of time Newry and Mourne District Council have managed to develop such an advanced recycling facility for the people of Crossmaglen. This new site has brought the number of Household Recycling Centres in the District to 8; and we hope that with the support of local residents, this site will contribute greatly to Newry and Mourne Councils Recycling Rate."
For 2011/12 Council are reporting a provisional recycling rate of 37%. This is up 4% on last year and we hope with the installation of the new site, along with the active engagement of local residents we will achieve even higher targets in 2013.
