Spark Of Genius Launches

Spark’s will fly as Electric Ireland and Dublin Web Summit partner to find Ireland’s hottest startup.

The Electric Ireland Spark Of Genius competition aims to find the best tech startup in Ireland. The Spark Of Genius, now in its third year is Ireland’s leading startup competition. Running alongside the Dublin Web Summit – Ireland's biggest business and technology event, the Spark of Genius is supported by Electric Ireland.

In 2011, the Spark of Genius attracted over 150 entries from early stage tech entrepreneurs and a prize fund of over €100,000 in cash and services to distribute to the winners.

"The talent that we see come through the Spark is phenomenal. DataHug, who won in 2010 received funding of over €1m last year and are well on their way to success while last years winners Redeem & Get are seeing great traction in the Daily Deal space," said Paddy Cosgrave, founder of the Dublin Web Summit. "We're delighted to have Electric Ireland as partners for this event, which grows from strength to strength.

"We see a lot of young startups and the Spark helps to give these guys an edge with cash as well as accountancy and legal services from KPMG and others. As a boot-strapped startup legal and accounting services are often neglected but they’re the backbone of any successful business."

Liam Molloy, General Manager, Electric Ireland commenting on the sponsorship said: "Electric Ireland is committed to embracing innovation and new technology to enhance our customer relationships and experiences.

"Given the calibre of last years entrants and their business ideas and given how the Dublin Web Summit showcases Irish tech entrepreneurship to a global audience; we are delighted to be able to again sponsor the inspiring initiative that is the Electric Ireland Spark of Genius award," Molloy added.
