Fine Gael Dublin Central Deputy, Paschal Donohoe, has today said he will be raising the issue of the development of the Grangegorman site, which has been earmarked as a centralised campus for Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), with Government with a view to progressing future plans for the site.
He said: "The site at Grangegorman is an ideal location for the development of an integrated campus for DIT colleges, which would see the Dublin 7 area receive desperately needed investment and regeneration, while delivering much needed jobs for the construction sector.
"The relocation of the DIT colleges to the site is a commitment in the Programme for Government, resources permitting. Due to economic circumstances however the project was delayed in the capital spending programme review last November, which committed to planning towards an initial Public Private Partnership project, for possible completion in 2017.
"The fact remains that despite our economic difficulties, we must continue to seek out and identify the best way of stimulating economic activity and providing for the future. This project remains a priority for Government and it is my belief that by furthering the development, we stand to gain substantially in terms of job creation and the renewal of the Grangegorman area. We would also be delivering a world class facility for our DIT students, who would, for the first time, be coming together as a single educational unit. This would be good for students and good for the city of Dublin."
