The Department for Agriculture and Rural Development has launched a consultation seeking views on its draft Strategic Plan 2012 -2020.

The purpose of the consultation is to seek views from interested parties on the contents of the Plan which details actions intended to achieve the Department’s vision of ‘a thriving and sustainable rural economy, community and environment’.

The draft Strategic Plan 2012 – 2020 focuses on a number of goals, underlying those actions, which are interdependent and will address key issues in support of achieving the Department’s vision. These goals are as follows:

•To help support the agri-food industry prepare for future market opportunities and economic challenges.

•To improve the lives of rural dwellers.

•To enhance animal, fish and plant health and animal welfare.

•To help deliver improved sustainable environmental outcomes.

•To manage our business and deliver services to our customers in a cost effective way.

This consultation exercise asks interested parties, to consider the goals outlined and the actions detailed, to determine whether they are appropriate and whether they will help the Department achieve its vision.
