SDLP Lisburn City Councillor Brian Heading has welcomed news that improvements will be made to directional signs in the Lagmore and Mount Eagles housing estates, but has said work needs to commence within the financial year.
Cllr Heading was speaking after receiving assurances from the Department for Regional Development that work was planned for the current financial year but has not yet started.
He said: "This is very welcome news from DRD, but it comes after a long and sustained campaign for a review to be carried out of the quality of directional signs in these estates and for improvements to be identified and carried out efficiently and swiftly.
"We are now a good chunk of the way into the current financial year and the work has not started.
"I urge DRD and its relevant agencies to circulate the details of signage planned to representatives and residents and to get work underway soon so that residents can reap the benefits of better signage."
