Details Of Resurfacing Works On A1 Announced

Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy MLA has announced details of the third and final phase of resurfacing work on the A1 Dual Carriageway between Dromore and Banbridge.

Work has been ongoing over the past two weekends and the final scheme will be completed over the weekend 7 -10 September 2012. The section of the A1 affected will be the southbound carriageway between Grove Road and Mount Ida Road.

The Minister said: "These essential works will represent a considerable investment in the road network and will strengthen this section of the A1 so that it can carry today’s very high traffic volumes, provide good skidding resistance, an even running surface, prevent the formation of surface defects and will reduce road noise thereby improving the safety and comfort of road users."

For safety reasons, it will be necessary to close the southbound carriageway of the A1 between Grove Road and Mount Ida Road from 21.00 on Friday 7 September through to 06.00 on Monday 10 September. During this time one lane will operate in each direction via a contra-flow system on the northbound carriageway. A temporary 40mph speed limit will also be in operation throughout the works. There will also be restrictions on traffic wanting to enter or leave the A1 within the works areas. A traffic diversion will be in place via Diamond Road, Gall Bog Road and Waringsford Road for all traffic leaving Dromore and wanting to travel southbound on the A1.
