Responding to reports that the proposed property tax could be anything from €250 to €400, the Sinn Féin spokesperson on local government Brian Stanley said he is opposed to the tax in principle as it does not take into account ability to pay.
He said: "The Taoiseach's assurance that the tax could be anything from €250 to €400 will come as little comfort to families who are already seriously struggling under the weight of government cuts and charges.
"Sinn Féin's wealth tax is a more equitable proposal which links ability to pay with a percentage tax on all property, physical, material and financial, over €1 million."
