A Co Armagh farmer pleaded guilty and was fined £600 plus £25 court costs at Armagh Magistrates' Court.
Richard Neil Frazer, of Drumgaw Road, Armagh, Co Armagh, was fined for making a polluting discharge to a waterway.
On 10 June 2011,a Water Quality Inspector acting on behalf of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency observed farm effluent entering an unnamed tributary of the Callan River. The source of the polluting discharge was traced to a farm owned by Mr Frazer. The waterway was polluted for a distance in access of 350m.
A sample taken at the time of the incident confirmed that the discharge contained poisonous, noxious, or polluting matter which would have been potentially harmful to fish life in the receiving watercourse.
