Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has announced that consultants URS have been appointed to start work on the Ballymoney town centre Masterplan.
The masterplan will provide a clear strategy for managing the regeneration of Ballymoney over the next 15-20 years.
Nelson McCausland said: "I am pleased to be able to announce that work has now commenced to produce a Masterplan for Ballymoney town centre. Over the next 12 months URS will work with a wide range of stakeholders to produce a Masterplan that will provide the town with a vision that will allow it to grow, diversify and prosper in the future. The general public will also have their say as a 12 week period of public consultation has also been built into the development process."
The Masterplan will provide a framework within which detailed proposals for a mix of business, leisure, tourism, public space and housing could be accommodated.
Mayor of Ballymoney Borough, Councillor Eveylne Robinson commented: "I welcome the Departments on-going commitment to the Town Centre in these very challenging economic times. The Masterplan will provide a strategy and vision for the town, creating new opportunities. I look forward to increasing tourism potential and creation of sustainable jobs for the future."
