Minister for Social Development, Nelson McCausland has announced the appointment of consultants to undertake a Strategic Environmental Assessment for the Laganbank Quarter Development Scheme, Lisburn.
Costing £41,500, the Department will fund the works in order to prepare the way to deliver major regeneration in the area known as Laganbank Quarter in Lisburn.
Speaking about the study the Minister said: "There has been considerable work already undertaken to enable my Department to bring forward the Laganbank Quarter Development Scheme. This Strategic Environmental Assessment will be undertaken in parallel with work on the actual Development Scheme."
The Laganbank Quarter Development Scheme includes provision for:
approximately 160,000 sq ft commercial office space;
over 400 homes in total; a range of homes for sale and a choice of affordable homes; including social rented and shared ownership properties;
a new pedestrian footbridge connecting the east and west banks of the river; a pedestrian “boardwalk” along the river – opening it up for recreation purposes;
a range of complementary uses including local retailing and cafes/ bars beside the river (totalling approximately 20,000 sq ft floorspace);
high quality public realm and landscaping along the river.
