Council Launches Events As Part Of Design Week

Dublin City Council design promotion initiative, PIVOT Dublin, is running three events as part of Design Week which takes place from 5th – 12th November 2012.

The three events are the Dublin Tagged Exhibition, Aungier Street guided walks and exhibition titled 'A Design Highlight' and the launch of the ACE 'Imagine Energy' Design competition.

Dublin Tagged is the mirrored exhibition of Helsinki Tagged which took place last September as part of the Helsinki World Design Capital 2012 event. Eighty tags with people’s ideas and descriptions of places in the city will be placed in various locations around Dublin city. These tags can then be read and enjoyed by people as they go about their everyday journeys through the capital. These places and the reason why they were chosen will be exhibited in a central exhibition in the City Centre, The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Naoise Ó Muirí will launch the exhibition on 6th November at 4 Capel Street, Dublin 2. This exhibition is a stepping-stone to create an incentive for people to be more aware in their cities as they go about their everyday journeys, by finding and reading the tags. A map will be on display to help people discover all the tags in Dublin.

"The tags enable people to see a place through someone else's eyes, and thus see the city in a new light. Informed and positive change comes about when people are conscious and aware of their surroundings. A competition will be run on www.dublintagged.com to see who can find, photograph and upload the most tags onto the site. I saw the exhibition in operation in Helsinki and I'm looking forward to seeing what Dubliner's have to say!" said the Lord Mayor.

The second event is the Aungier Street Guided Walks and Exhibition. There will be free guided tours of the historic street on 5th, 7th and 9th November at midday.

Finally on 6th November, Dublin City Council in conjunction with Codema will launch the ACE 'Imagine Energy' design competition. The organisers are looking for individuals to come up with a one of a kind concept to develop a smart energy feature for Dublin’s city centre. This will inform and educate people about renewable energy in a creative and innovative way. The smart energy feature must highlight the link between renewable energy supply and demand but entrants should be as creative and original as possible in communicating this, through art, technology, light or even sound.
