The new WWTP and Sludge Hub Centre in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, was officially opened by the Minister for the Environment, Phil Hogan, on June 7th, 2012.
T. J. O'Connor & Associates acted as Client's Representative for this project which is designed to cater for a total capacity of 45,000 PE and is capable of meeting stringent new discharge standards imposed under the Wastewater Discharge Licensing Requirements.
The scheme also includes a county Sludge Treatment Centre catering for a PE of 80,000. The sludge is treated to a Class 'A' standard. This allows its re-use in the form of fertilizer pellets, with no sludge being taken to landfill.
Works included the construction of new large diameter inlet sewers, one of which was constructed under the bed of the Tullamore River, and a new inlet pumping station and odour abatement measures.
