Dublin Bay North Labour TD Seán Kenny, has called on Dublin City Council to review the maintenance of the central heating systems in their Seniors City flat complexes.
This follows on from the discovery of two people in a flat at Drumalee Court, Stoneybatter, in the north city. It is thought that the people, who died of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning, may have been in the flat for up to four days.
Mr Kenny said: "I received a phone call this morning from a worried senior citizen who told me that his gas heating system had not been serviced by Dublin City Council for over two years and he expressed fears that carbon monoxide could be present. Heating systems should be serviced regularly and in order to alleviate unnecessary fears, I am calling on Dublin City Council to step up its maintenance.
"With the advent of a cold spell over the next few days, I would also ask householders to check their central heating boilers and to look out for older people living alone."
