NI Water has announced that a contract for the construction of a new major Wastewater Pumping Station at Newry Road, Warrenpoint, is programmed to commence in the DRD Roads Service car park, with associated sewerage infrastructure improvement works to take place along the Newry Road, Meeting Street and Mound Road areas of Warrenpoint.
Work is planned to commence on site in February 2013 with anticipated completion in April 2014. The overall project represents a significant investment by NI Water of £3 million.
The proposed works planned by NI Water will replace the existing aging and inefficient Wastewater Pumping Station at Newry Road, Warrenpoint and will reduce the risk of future potential out of sewer flooding incidents at Meeting Street and Charlotte Street, Warrenpoint. Implementation of the Newry Road, Warrenpoint, Wastewater Pumping Station replacement contract will also help improve the water quality transferred to Carlingford Lough, helping to meet Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) standards.
