Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy announced the start of a £205,000 major resurfacing scheme on a section of the Douglas Road, the main Douglas Bridge to Newtownstewart road this week.
Resurfacing work is due to commence on 23 January 2013 from the Douglas Road/Ballymullarty Road junction for a distance of 2.1km going towards Newtownstewart on the B165.
The Minister said: "This scheme will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway on this route between Douglas Bridge and Newtownstewart.
"Roads Service has carefully programmed the works operations and traffic management arrangements in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public, however motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys."
Due to the restricted carriageway width available on the Douglas Road and to help minimise any potential conflict between the site works and traffic associated with the travelling public, it is necessary to close the 2.1km section to through traffic for the period 23 January to 10 February 2013. Diversions will be signposted via Victoria Bridge. Local access will be retained.
The scheme is expected to be substantially completed on 10 February 2013.
