Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy announced the start of a £130,000 road improvement scheme on Middle Road, Carrickfergus.
The works are being carried out to improve safety and aid traffic progression on Middle Road at Meadow Hill and are due to begin on Monday 25 February 2013. They will include carriageway widening to facilitate right turning traffic, provision of a PUFFIN crossing and resurfacing of a length of Middle Road.
The Minister said: "The scheme is aimed at enhancing the general safety of this section of road and improving road safety for pedestrians. The works will be particularly helpful to vulnerable pedestrians such as children, the elderly and people with disabilities. In addition, the works will improve traffic flow along Middle Road and provide drivers with better right turning facilities to Meadow Hill and the petrol filling station."
The works are expected to be completed before the major works on the nearby A2 Shore Road at Greenisland begin.
