Phil Hogan, T.D., Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, has announced that he has given sanction to West Limerick Resources to approve funding of €195,101.47 to Shanagolden Community Council to develop the local community park.
The project consists of two elements: an off-road walkway around the perimeter of the park to provide safe walking and exercise facilities, and a changing room and toilet facilities for users of the park.
The funding is being provided under the Village Renewal and Development measure of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.
Minister Hogan said: "I am delighted that the Rural Development Programme is in a position to support Shanagolden Community Council in providing these much-needed facilities, at an estimated total project cost of €260,135.30, which will cater for the needs of all members of the community who use the park."
