Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy announced the start of a £358,000 major resurfacing scheme on the A2 Belfast/ Bangor Road.
The work is due to begin on 8 March between Rathgael Road and Ballysallagh Road junctions.
The Minister said: "I am pleased to announce the start of this scheme. It demonstrates my Department's commitment to investment into the road network within the North Down area.
"Roads Service has carefully programmed the works operations and traffic management arrangements in order to minimise inconvenience to the public. However, motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning journeys."
To help minimise any inconvenience to the travelling public and local businesses the majority of this work is programmed to be completed during week-ends and using overnight side road closures when traffic flows are lowest. Three consecutive weekends will be required beginning at 7pm on Friday to 6am on Monday.
