Mechanical Biological Treatment Facility Gets The Go-Ahead

An Bord Pleanála has granted planning permission for a Bord na Móna Mechanical Biological Treatment Facility at Drehid.

The Bord na Móna facility will accept and process up to 250,000 tonnes of residual (black bin) municipal solid waste per year.

The mechanical process will extract biodegradable materials (such as food waste particles) for biological treatment, market recyclables (such as plastics, metals, paper and cardboard), and high calorific materials for use as a fossil fuel substitute in facilities such as cement kilns in Ireland and abroad.
