Grid25 Programme Will Benefit Ireland

Completion of the Grid25 programme to update the national electricity grid will deliver significant benefits to Ireland, including helping attract and retain high tech inward investment, it was stated at the launch of the EirGrid Annual Report in Cork.

At the launch of the 2012 EirGrid Annual Report, progress on new and upgraded transmission infrastructure is detailed. The report also shows Ireland's continued world-leading performance in adding wind energy to the grid and in introducing innovation to the electricity system.


The EirGrid Annual Report 2012 details the delivery by EirGrid of projects during the past year, including new transmission lines in counties Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim, Kerry Meath and Cavan, as well as the East West Interconnector and a major substation in Co Wexford.

Other projects being progressed towards planning include proposed transmission developments in the West, and in Leinster and Munster.

EirGrid Chairperson Bernie Gray said: "It has been a significant year for EirGrid and one that has seen us continue to consolidate our progress in developing the major infrastructural projects which will provide the power system our customers need. These projects will deliver a wide range of benefits to the national and regional economies."
