West Tyrone Assembly Member Joe Byrne has welcomed the reaffirmed commitment by the First and Deputy First Ministers to building the A5 and the assurance that money allocated for the project will be retained in the North West.
The commitments were issued by the Deputy First Minister during a cross party, cross border meeting on the A5 in Stormont. Political representatives from all the counties along the route attended the meeting.
Mr Byrne said: "I welcome the reaffirmed commitment by the office of First and Deputy First Minister and the Executive, that building the A5 remains a priority.
"The delay in this building project caused by the legal challenge is frustrating but it is only a temporary set back. Every party north and south wants this road to go ahead. It will go ahead.
"I was also pleased to hear the commitment from the Deputy First Minister that the money allocated to this project will be retained and reinvested in the North West. There has been a legacy of under funding of infrastructure projects in the North West. This historic neglect must be addressed."
