Following approval by the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government the Dublin Region Water mains Rehabilitation Project will commence another major improvement contract in Dublin City to replace old leaking Victorian water mains today.
This next phase of water mains improvements will take place in the Gardiner Street, Camden Street Upper, Clanwilliam Place, Sean Moore Road, Terenure Road North, Christchurch Place and Crumlin Cross areas.
"The Project, managed by Dublin City Council, has already replaced 140km of water mains as part of an overall integrated investment programme across Dublin. The benefits of this new contract will include a further reduction in leakage from pipes, improved water pressure to homes and businesses, and improved levels of service and security of supply," according to Tom Leahy, Executive Manager (Engineering) with Dublin City Council.
The project team is working closely with businesses and An Garda Siochána to manage traffic while the works are underway and delays will be kept to a minimum. People are advised to plan their journeys and give themselves enough time if they have to cross the works.
"We always work closely with all our customers in the vicinity of the works to provide plenty of advance notice of any interruptions to supply, which are minimised, and are limited to approximately 10 hours," said Ronan O'Rourke, Project Manager, Dublin City Council. "We endeavour to keep non-domestic customers supplied with water during the works, where possible."
The €5.8 million contract will continue for approximately 12 months and is being delivered by GMC Utilities Group.
