Period Buildings Show, Rathfarnham Castle, Sat 13th & 14th July 2013

The Irish Georgian Society & South Dublin County Council, in association with the Office of Public Works presents the Period Building Show: a weekend of traditional building skills demonstrations & conservation talks at Rathfarnham Castle on Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th July 2013 (10am to 5pm daily)

All Welcome. Free Admission. No Booking Necessary.

Rathfarnham Castle will become a one-stop destination for those in need of accurate, impartial and free advice on caring and repairing for our built heritage.

It's a unique show which gives you the opportunity to:

• Watch over two dozen craftspeople demonstrate key traditional building skills needed for the conservation of old buildings to include: sash window repairs: stained glass & fanlight conservation: stone carving; dry stonewall construction; use of lime based mortars; decorative plasterwork; ironwork; slate roofing; traditional wallpaper making; thatching; and furniture restoration to name a few.

• Listen to informative and interactive talks on old buildings; their history, maintenance and repair. (structured CPD points from RIAI for architects attending talks)

• Engage one-to-one with your Council’s Architectural Conservation Officer & Heritage Officer and ask about the management and care of your old home.

• Obtain advice from conservation architects, engineers, planners, craftsmen, heritage builders and materials suppliers.

• Gather information on old building planning law, insurance, finance and more.

• Talk to the representatives at the information stands of the: Building Limes Forum Ireland; CIF Heritage Contractors; Dublin Civic Trust; Irish Antiques Dealers Association; Irish Georgian Society; Office of Public Works; South Dublin County Council; and The Heritage Council.

Family Friendly Event. Free face painting (12noon -3pm). Live music. Gourmet food stalls. Enjoy Rathfarnham Castle playground & visit the Rathfarnham Castle's Berkeley Costume and Toy Collection (an exquisite display of 18th & 19th century toys, dolls and costumes).
