Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has announced the start of a £45,000 pedestrian crossing on Purdysburn Road, Castlereagh.
The works are being carried out to improve pedestrian facilities, and are due to begin on Monday 22 July. This will involve provision of a toucan crossing.
Mr Kennedy said: "The scheme is aimed at enhancing pedestrian facilities along this section of road. The works will be particularly helpful to vulnerable pedestrians such as children, parents, the elderly and people with disabilities and those attending the nearby St Ita's Primary School. The works are expected to be complete before the start of the new school year.
"My Department is committed to improving both road safety and the strategic management of traffic on the road network. The provision of this toucan crossing will be of great benefit to pedestrians
"As well as helping pedestrians to cross, toucan crossings allow bicycles to be ridden across the road."
