CITB-ConstructionSkills NI will deliver the 'Building Skills for Sustainable Construction II' project which will train a further 30 local construction workers during 2014 to widen their knowledge of sustainable construction methods, renewable energy and environmental standards.
The placement is fully funded and the training will take place in Biberach, Germany.
CITB-ConstructionSkills NI Chief Executive Barry Neilson said: "We are delighted that we have secured additional funding to send another 30 local construction workers on this unique training course in Germany. Government targets for more sustainable homes as well as higher demand from customers mean that the skills provided through this training programme are vital for those working in the industry. Germany is one of the world's greenest economies and research has indicated that buildings in Germany use 20% less energy than neighbouring countries. It is this know-how that we hope to transfer to the local industry to help us meet our regional energy targets."
The additional funding has been obtained through the European Commission's Leonardo programme which is managed by Ecorys in the UK.
Two training courses will be delivered in April and September 2014 each will last for a two week period. The participants will also be required to attend language and cultural training prior to their departure to Germany.
The scheme will be open to participants who would like to find out more about building and retro-fitting energy-efficient buildings, renewable technologies and sustainable materials. The training will be delivered by KOMZET (a Centre of Vocational Excellence in Timber Construction and Finishings) and includes site visits.
Recruitment for participants to take part in the programme will commence in September 2013. Interested parties can keep up to date with the progress of the project at www.citbcsni.org.uk
