ESB has announced its support for Women Invent Tomorrow - Championing women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).
This year-long program will inspire the next generation of women to choose knowledge based careers, highlight the importance of closing the gender gap in Science and Technology areas and profile inspirational women as role models in the fields of STEM.
Following the findings of The World Economic Forum's Corporate Gender Gap Report which highlighted a lack of role models as one of the greatest barriers to women leaders, Siliconrepublic.com, Ireland's leading technology news service is teaming up with industry stakeholders to create a campaign to champion the role of women and girls in Science, Technology and Engineering.
ESB in conjunction with Accenture, Intel, The Irish Research Council and DCU will support this campaign over the coming months. Key initiatives will include:
• Launching Ireland's Greatest Woman Inventor competition,
• Launching the first Irish Gender Gap Report in STEM,
• Launching the 50 Top Women in STEM in Ireland publication,
• Launching a Europe-wide Invent Tomorrow campaign.
Currently, ESB supports a number of initiatives which encourage female students to consider engineering as an option for their future careers. Each November, ESB International run a 3 day education programme to give female students an opportunity to see what life is like working as an engineer. Over time, this activity has proven to play a vital role in helping female students decide to study engineering at third level.
