Fire safety experts have warned that hundreds of boom era apartment blocks could be as unsafe as Priory Hall.
Concerns have been raised that many apartment complexes could suffer the same problems that were identified in the Tom McFeely-built Priory Hall in North Dublin.
Following the revelations about Priory Hall, with all residents made to abandon their homes in the complex after it was ruled unsafe, fire safety inspectors have issued the warning about similar builds, along with schools, healthcare premises and office buildings built during the boom period.
New legislation is currently being prepared by Environment Minister Phil Hogan that will see an increase in the number of inspections carried on buildings alongside an increase in the possible penalties.
