Ireland's Most Energy Efficient Data Centre Opens

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has officially opened Ireland's most energy efficient data centre.

The B10 facility constructed by Dataplex was formally opened by An Taoiseach, alongside Dataplex CEO Eddie Kilbane.

The Dataplex data centre is now the greenest in Ireland and has been designed, manufactured, supplied and engineered by Irish companies from day one.

The Taoiseach said: "Storing, processing, manipulating, 'Big Data' is now one of the fastest growing industries in the world with new applications being developed on a daily basis.

"The ongoing transition to cloud computing is changing business models right across the globe and is presenting new business opportunities for forward thinking countries like Ireland and companies like Dataplex.

"I am pleased to note that this is an Irish company, with international ambitions that is developing new service centres and data centres in London and Malta."

According to Dataplex CEO Eddie Kilbane, the second phase will now see the overall capacity triple at the B10 facility: "With investment now in place for Phase 2 here in Dublin, we will deliver ongoing innovation and tailored market-shaping facilities. We are also developing new data centre facilities elsewhere in Europe, specifically, in London and Malta, which will be available for clients to move in during 2014."
