The Oireachtas and the Good Friday Agreement Implementation Committee was addressed by representatives of the Special European Programmes Body (SEUPB), which is responsible for the co-ordination of over €300m of funding.

The SEUPB is one of the key agencies funding the proposed cross border bridge at Narrow Water linking County Louth with County Down.

Speaking following the meeting Connor Murphy MP, said: "I used the meeting to press the representative of the SEUPB to continue to support the project and work with the local authorities to ensure that the project goes ahead.

"A construction project of this magnitude will deliver local jobs and a vital piece of infrastructure which will sustain economic development for years to come. Sinn Féin will continue to support the bridge project."

Aengus O'Snodaigh added: "This bridge will unite communities and businesses across the border. It is also an example of how smart investment can deliver both immediate jobs for construction works and enhance the long term competitiveness of communities. There is an onus on the SEUPB to work with agencies to secure the development of the bridge."
