Three local projects are set to undergo significant energy improvement works after Limerick City & County Council's Economic Development Section secured funding from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).

The funding, which has been allocated under the Better Energy Programme, will result in improvement works to the thermal and electrical efficiency of both Heritage Centres in Adare and Lough Gur, as well as an upgrade of the pool heating system at Killeline Leisure Centre in Newcastle West.

The Local Authority took on the lead role in applying for the funding in partnership with the businesses and the Limerick Clare Energy Agency (LCEA) to deliver sustainable energy projects in Limerick. Approximately €135,000 will be expended on works in the three buildings to upgrade and retrofit the electrical and heating systems.

Mr Conn Murray, CEO, Limerick City & County Council commented: "I warmly welcome this public private partnership initiative to test new and innovative approaches to improve energy efficiency within businesses in Limerick. This will help the businesses to reduce their energy and operating costs which also stimulating employment activity through labour-intensive sustainable energy upgrade projects."
