Larne is set to be revitalised thanks to a £2.2million public realm scheme announced by Social Development Minister, Nelson McCausland.
The Minister made the announcement during a visit to the Co. Antrim town, where he also heard about the work completed on a number of other initiatives that were listed in the town centre masterplan which was published in June 2010.
Minister McCausland said: "The funding for this new £2.2million public scheme, which will be sourced from my Department through the Northern Ireland Executive and Larne Borough Council, will deliver real improvements to Larne town for all the people to enjoy. Schemes like this can transform the streetscapes and makes them more attractive, encouraging people to stay a little longer and enjoy the atmosphere."
The scheme will include the provision of new footways and kerbing, street lighting, street furniture, railings and planted areas.
Commenting on the masterplan the Minister added: "I am really pleased that Larne is working hard to deliver the regeneration actions that were included in its town centre’s masterplan. Clearly the masterplan partnership is taking its role very seriously and this works because of the strong links forged between the elected councillors and the private sector and engagement with the statutory advisors, including DRD Roads Service, Planning Service and my own Department."
