Green Light For A26 Road Scheme

Proposals for a major £65m road scheme on the A26 Glarryford road have been boosted after the scheme was given the go-ahead by the Executive.

Transport Minister, Danny Kennedy said that he welcomed the Executive's decision to allocate around £8m in 2014/15 which would enable the scheme to be taken forward. The announcement was made in the Assembly today as part of the October Monitoring round.

The A26 Frosses Road project will involve the provision of seven kilometres of dual carriageway between Glarryford and the A44 Drones Road (the Ballycastle Fork).

Mr Kennedy said: "I want to welcome today's announcement which will help to progress the delivery of this long-awaited scheme. I have supported calls for this project to be brought forward and am fully aware of the benefits it will bring to the local economy and the public.

"The next step will be the publication of the Departmental statement which is my consideration of the Inspector's findings into the public inquiry for the scheme."
