Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy announced the start of a £235,000 major resurfacing scheme on a section of A5 Melmount Road,Sion Mills, the main Strabane to Omagh road this week.
Road works are to commence on 4th November to resurface approximately 700m of the Melmount Road immediately south of Sion Mills.
The Minister said: "This scheme will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway on this section of trunk road between Strabane and Omagh."
Due to the restricted carriageway width available on the Melmount Road, and to help minimise any potential conflict between the site works and through traffic, it will be necessary to close the section of the road for one weekend in November. A road closure is planned for Saturday 16 November and Sunday 17 November 2013. Southbound traffic will be diverted via B72 Liskey Road, and northbound traffic will be diverted via B165 Bellspark Road. Local access will be retained.
