Improvements To Be Made To Grafton Street

The public has until Friday 15th November to give their feedback on Dublin City Council's Grafton Street Quarter Draft Public Realm Plan.

The plan identifies the improvements Dublin City Council aims to make on Grafton Street and the surrounding streets in the coming years.

"The plan sets out our vision for the future of the Grafton Street Quarter. It identifies the improvements Dublin City Council wants to make in areas like street paving, public lighting and how people and vehicles use the streets. We are carrying out one of the most important of these at the moment – the repaving of Grafton Street. These improvements will make the area even more attractive to shoppers, locals and tourists," said Lord Mayor Oisín Quinn who announced details of the Draft Plan.

New public art on Grafton Street is one of the improvements the public can expect in the Grafton Street Quarter in the coming years. The council is now asking artists and designers to submit their ideas for three unique pieces of street furniture which will showcase the new-look Grafton Street. These are:

A seat for the top of Grafton Street (between St. Stephen's Green and Chatham Street)

12 unique art works which will also function as bollards

One design for a set of 10 'perch seat bollards'

"The winning design or designs will be original and respond to the street's history, architectural character and its central place in the life of the city. As well as being public artworks the designs must also work as street furniture so need to be both functional and imaginative," said Dublin City Council's Public Art Manager Ruairí Ó Cuív.
