Foyle SDLP MLA Pat Ramsey has welcomed recommended planning approval for a regeneration project at Rossdowney Road in the Waterside, which he believes has the potential to inject a serious economic boost to the area.
Speaking after the recommended approval given by SDLP Environment Minister Mark H Durkan, assemblyman Ramsey said he is confident the application will receive the necessary approval; reflecting confidence in the local economy.
Mr Ramsey said: "This is welcome news as it's something the SDLP has been working on for a long time.
"This would be a significant investment boost into the locality and benefit, not just the immediate local area but the Waterside as a whole with opportunities for employment and community uses within the site."
The plans for lands, currently occupied by Niche Drinks, include a new food superstore with ancillary non-food, business innovation centre and the retention of the former school building for use as a crèche. The proposal also includes car parking; servicing and associated landscaping.
