Education Minister, John O'Dowd, has officially opened the 'Pathway to Peace' in L'Derry.
The pathway leads to the Peace Flame Monument and is made up of 70 inspiring messages called 'pledges of peace'. The pledges, which have been imprinted onto clay tiles, were designed by pupils from schools across L'Derry City Council and Donegal.
Minister O'Dowd said: "I am delighted to be here today to officially open the 'Pathway to Peace'. It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to see firsthand the inspiring messages that the pupils have developed through their pledges and artwork.
"Young people make an important contribution to society and this project allows them to share their hopes and aspirations, evidence of their desire to help shape a reconciled future for all."
All schools/colleges within the L'Derry City Council area were invited to compose a 25 word peace pledge and a piece of artwork related to their pledge. Sixty schools/colleges within L'Derry City Council area and 10 schools within County Donegal signed up to the initiative, providing 70 peace pledges collectively.
