A Co Fermanagh farmer was fined £1,000 plus court costs of £28 at Enniskillen Magistrates' Court.
Mr Darren McCormick, of Greenhill Road, Brookeborough, Ardmore, Co Fermanagh was fined for making a polluting discharge to a waterway.
On 3 January 2013, a Water Quality Inspector, acting on behalf of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency, inspected a tributary of the Colebrooke River at Ardmore and found it to contain an extensive growth of sewage fungus. A similarly-polluted field drain was found to be discharging to the waterway; this field drain was receiving agricultural effluent from the farm premises of Mr McCormick through a pipe. Some 1,300 metres of waterway was adversely affected by this polluting discharge.
