Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has announced the completion of a £55,000 pedestrian and cycle toucan puffin crossing on East Link Road, Dundonald.
Mr Kennedy said: "This crossing will improve road safety for pedestrians and cyclists, particularly vulnerable road users such as children, the elderly and people with disabilities."
The decision to provide a Puffin Toucan Crossing is based upon criteria relating to the number of pedestrians and cyclists crossing the road and the volume of vehicles using it. This is to ensure that a crossing located where there is the greatest demand.
The Minister continued: "The main consideration in choosing the location for the East Link crossing was to have it as close as possible to the existing crossing of the Comber Greenway with East Link Road.
"Roads Service has provided this crossing as part of their programme of providing controlled crossings at locations where the Comber Greenway is intersected by busy roads."
